Dear ISBS members,

The annual ISBS conference is a key-meeting point for the scientific exchange of knowledge and networking possibilities within our field of research. At this time of the year, we are seeking for institution/persons interested in hosting this attractive event.  Therefore it’s a pleasure to announce herewith the

1st call for hosting following Conferences of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS)

  • 36th Conferences of the ISBS 2018
    • preferred region: North and South America
  • 37th Conferences of the ISBS 2019
    • preferred region: Austral-Asia

According to the rotation principle the first call is open to interested persons in the preferred region. Deadline for submitting your application is the 30th of April

In the event that no proposals are received, a 2nd call for hosting will be made on the 1st of May, opening the invitation to all global regions. The request for proposals will be made through e-mails to all members. The deadline for submission will then be June 1st.

In case of your interest in hosting one of these conferences, please prepare your bid according to the ‘pdfPolicies and Guidelines Manual for the Planning and Preparation of the ISBS Annual Conference’.

This document contains all relevant information to prepare and organize the ISBS Conference.

According to the ISBS Cons­tituti­on, the electi­on of the President-Elect and ten (10) members of the Board of Directors is mandated in the year 2016.

The directors have considerable influence on the direction and activities of the Society, thus it is important to seek individuals who are responsible and willing to serve the Society.

The By-Laws of the Society state, “Only members in good standing may vote, stand for election or appointment to office.” So, it is imperative that your membership dues are current. For membership information and dues payment go to:

2016-2017 term will begin at the Post Conference meeting in Tsukuba, Japan

Board of Directors:

Two-year term


Shall serve for one year as President Elect, two years as President and one year as Past President


  •  Self-nomination is permitted.
  •  Current directors may stand for re-election.
  •  According to the ISBS Constitution, a maximum of 10 (ten) years of service is allowed for each individual (not including years as President, President Elect, Past President, Treasurer, or Secretary General).
  •  Before nominating another member, please be certain that the member is willing to serve.

Candidates are encouraged to submit a photo and a statement of 100 words or less. (In order to be fair to all candidates, statements that are longer than 100 words will be truncated.)

This is not an academic position, so although a statement may include academic achievements, it should also include information relative to the position. A description of the Director position is provided on the Society webpage

  • Hans Gros Emerging Researcher Award are due in just under 1 week (Sunday 31st of January)
  • New Investigator Award in just over 3 weeks (20th February)

Dear Colleagues,

As part of increasing of ISBS’s aim to increase the impact and visibility of researchers work we have developed a collaboration with the American Society of Biomechanics. The American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) will host a keynote speaker from the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS) at the 40th Annual Meeting of ASB in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA held August 2nd to 5th, 2016. This inaugural lecture will provide a great opportunity to expose North American biomechanists to the leading edge of international research in the biomechanics of sports. The successful proposal will be based on the ISBS philosophy of Theory to practice.

Additional Information

Funding: Conference registration fee and accommodation will be provided. In addition up to $2000 US will be provided towards documented costs incurred for an economy class flight, airport transfers, and subsistence during travel days.

Review committee: All applications will be considered by a review committee consisting of two representatives of ISBS and two representatives of ASB. Committee members will be appointed by the relevant boards of each society.

Deadline: Submissions will open for consideration from January 30th to February 29th, 2016.
